The next BIG adventure

Are you sitting down? Are you?! Get ready for the Wun piece of news to rule them all!

But first, let's recap:

Bernard and I moved home to Canada after adventuring in Abu Dhabi, UAE for a year. We went. We taught. We conquered. It was challenging, heart-wrenching, amazing, unbelievable, and stupid all at the same time. What an experience!

SO, we get home to Canada, we plan a wedding reception, we rock out at said wedding reception, and then we hunt. We hunt for jobs.

Originally, Bernard and I placed ourselves in the hands of a gorgeous recruiting company intending to place us in beautiful South Korea, but jobs were filling up fast and because of our late applications (we were in the damn Middle East for crying out loud!), jobs came and went. A couple of interviews later, nothing was suiting our fancy.

Wun thing we learned from working at a rough prison school in Abu Dhabi was to not take just ANYTHING and to wait for excellence!
Now, Wun can only wait so much, you know what I'm saying. Early September hit and we were itching to hear from somewhere, whether it was right here in the GTA, Ontario, Canada or ANYWHERE in Canada, or out East overseas. Nothing...

Until...

About a week ago, Bernard and I were scouted for a position at a prestigious company in the South East of Asia. We had a few interviews and hopped through a couple of necessary steps to be OFFERED THE JOBBBBBBBB!!!!!!!!!! We both got hired, essentially on the spot, SO without further ado... Let the guessing game begin.

This place is not Abu Dhabi.

This place is not Korea.

This place is not Canada.

I am currently drinking green tea in preparation.

The place does not have bbq sauce or ranch dressing.

This place has a character-based alphabet.

I am practicing my chopsticks grip in preparation.

There are red lanterns.

Pork dumplings.

Golden dragon.

Siamese cats.

Happy panda.

It ends in "hi" phonetically.

你好 !

No?

Look at my dress.

What rhymes, ironically, with vagina?

It starts with a C.

Nee how?

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Sarah and Bernard Wun are going to Shanghai, China to teach English!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMGGGG!!

SO, here are some fun facts about the differences between Abu Dhabi and Shanghai.

AD: hot as Jesus
SH: not as hot as Jesus
AD: deserted, in many respects
SH: SO many people always everywhere
AD: for why you are walk outside?
SH: trails, sidewalks, metros, downtown, paths, mountains, scenery, walkable!
AD: for why you are smile at students? for why you no yell?
SH: We want you to sing and dance and smile ALL the time!
AD: 3 months vacay because you need it because students eat you alive
SH: 10 DAYS vacay. Why you not working 24/7!!! *sigh* Asia <3
AD: Arabic and English
SH: Mandarin and English and others

etc. To sum up: How excited are you about us going to China? Not as excited as WE are!!! Shanghai baby!! To commence mid-November, 2013. Coming to a blog near you. :)

We will likely be blogging about the visa and orientation processes as well. Our new company is highly supportive and filled with lots of "let's help you" and such. For example, we need to complete 14 hours worth of TEFL-C classes before we even get to Shanghai in order to semi-prep for teaching children. Yes, our students range from 2-12. 2!!!! Tell me my ass won't be stealing a Chinese baby!!!! The best part is, I will want to babysit them, but my job already allows this but with an educational flare thrown at it, which is my style anyway.

Alas, I'm peeing like a golden retriever just thinking about it! It's gonna be a Wunderful Life in Shanghai, China! :D
